I don’t know about you, but every time there’s something good on the telly, I become slightly
obsessed with it for its run time. I’m not ashamed to say that when Stephen and Rachel
finally let their guard down and it hit them that they’d won together, I sobbed. There’s
something about a Scottish gay man and his millennial Northern Irish former-FBI-agent-trained best friend sticking it out together that reminds me everything’s going to be okay. So when the final episode of The Traitors: Uncloaked ended, and I could see the bottom of my glass where there used to be prosecco, I knew I needed to find something to replace the joy Claudia Winkleman emits into my tiny student house. If you’re feeling a similar way, please calm down; I have solutions in abundance.
Disclaimer: Most of these are only available on Netflix, which I can only apologise for. If you
don’t pay for Netflix, Survivor is available to watch on BBC iPlayer, which I only didn’t include
because of its lackluster reception.
The Mole (2022)
Here we have The Mole, season six, available on Netflix. She has missions, she has
sabotage, she’s set in Australia. What more could you want? Stop asking me for more, you
can’t have any more.
This is one of the most heavily cited within the conversation of game shows that are similar
to The Traitors. The game begins with twelve players, all aiming to win a prize pot that
increases when each challenge is completed. However, as Avori puts it in the trailer, “there is
a mole among us.” If one of the non-moles (people?) can make it to the end of the game and
uncover the mole’s identity, they win! Yay!
There are of course previous seasons of this show, but as far as I can tell they aren’t
currently available on any streaming services.
The Devil’s Plan (2023–2025)
Another Netflix hit, this show features arguably slightly more complicated challenges, which
certainly pay off in entertainment value. If you were ever someone who begged their family
to play Mafia with them as a child because you didn’t have any friends, this show might be
for you. I was very popular, but I still enjoy the show regardless.
Overall, the premise is quite similar to The Traitors and The Mole, except the twelve
contestants are South Korean celebrities, and it features a unique element called ‘Pieces.’
Each player starts the game with one Piece, and they can be won or lost in the two matches
per day. If you have no pieces, you’re out.
Million Dollar Secret (2025)
I don’t see a lot of people talking about this one, but it’s a gem. The concept is similar to The
Traitors, but instead of the prize money being removed from the players and able to be
collected at the end, one person starts with a million dollars, and the rest have to work out
who has the money. There are of course missions in the meantime, and if someone finds the
‘Millionaire’ then the money is transferred to another person, and the game continues. The
winner last year was an In-N-Out cook!
It’s also hosted by Peter Serafinowicz, who played Pete in Shaun of the Dead. So no leaving
the front door open if you’re thinking about applying for next season.
Traitors… abroad!
Last but not least, if you’re all out of UK seasons to watch, why not give other countries’
versions a go? The original Dutch version is unfortunately unavailable to watch here, but the
Irish, US, Australian, and New Zealand versions are all available on iPlayer. That’s eight
more series in total! The Irish version is hosted by Siobhán McSweeney, who of course plays
Sister Michael in Derry Girls, and in my opinion was an incredible choice for a host.
Happy bingeing!
